Soccer 'Ma'

Bringing new meaning to 'soccer mom' is my mom playing soccer with Ben this past weekend. I don't know how many kids can say they have played one-on-one soccer with their Grandmas, but it one of the reasons we love her so much! Ben has all of a sudden become very interested in sports, both playing and watching them. He looks forward to his soccer games every week, and is actually a pretty good player. He's much better at defense than offense, but given his personality that doesn't surprise me one bit. He's the type to analyze the situation, think of a solution and then execute, as opposed to taking the ball down the field and making a play happen. He hasn't scored a goal yet, but has stopped the opposing team from scoring many times. It so fun to watch him, even though his team isn't very good. They lost 11 to 3 on Saturday.
Ben is loving school. He comes home with all sorts of fun stories from the day and is talking circles around me in Spanish. He's been 'reading' from rote memory for a while now, but just recently started 'really' reading. Of course his favorite subject is math, like his old man, but at least he's showing interest in reading, even if it is only so he can research outer space. He's at the point now where he won't ask me any more questions, instead he just asks me to 'Google' it. Nice.
